Exhibition title
Enough: The Architecture of Degrowth

As a response to the on-going climate crisis and a global society with growing social inequality, 'Enough: The Architecture of Degrowth' explored the notion of degrowth and its possible consequences and opportunities for our cities.

During the Oslo Architecture Triennale (OAT) BC contributed to the exhibition 'The library' in The National Museum which suggested a library of architectural futures. Based on past experience, the research titled “the act of building” considered how different economic, political and social factors impact on the production of materials. Access to resources, ecological externalities and labour costs alter the modes of extraction, production and market value of the blocks, making the common material a barometer for different construction conditions, but also different exchange models and world views.

In August 2019, Sarah El Yousefy, David Hoppenbrouwers, Elise Laurent, Kenneth Smet and Anna Zan, a cross-continental group of designers craftsmen and workshop participants designed and produced three identical rammed earth objects - a design stool, an educational prototype and a building block during a workshop organised by Atelier Timur Ersen, Case Design and BC.
